How it works.

The rule

Start from what the item sells for, take out marketplace fees and your shipping label, and you have your net. Your max buy is the lower of two numbers: net minus your minimum profit, and the share of net you're willing to spend after keeping your margin.

With the defaults, a $10 minimum profit and a 50% margin, an item that nets $40 has a max buy of $20, and an item that nets $15 has a max buy of $5. If the net is under your minimum profit, the answer is pass.

Same math as the Oddlot app

This is the rule the Oddlot app uses for every scan, with the same $10 and 50% starting points. In the app, the sale price comes from matched eBay comps instead of your guess, and you can change your targets in settings.

Getting the sale price right

Your max buy is only as good as the price you start from. Use the middle of recent sold prices for the same item in the same condition, not the best sale you can find. The pricing guide walks through it, and the max buy guide covers lots, multiples and costs people forget.
