How it works.
What eBay charges
Most categories pay a 13.6% final value fee on the total sale up to $7,500, plus a per-order fee of $0.40, or $0.30 when the order is $10 or less. Some categories differ, like books, movies and music at 15.3% and guitars at 6.7%. Pick the category above to use its rate.
The total sale includes the item price, any shipping you charge and the sales tax the buyer pays. So charging shipping does not dodge the fee, and the fee is a little higher than the item price alone suggests.
Payout and profit
Payout is what eBay sends you: the item price plus shipping charged, minus fees. Sales tax passes through to the state and never reaches you. Profit is your payout minus the shipping label you buy and what you paid for the item.
Margin here is profit divided by what the buyer paid before tax. It is the number to watch on cheap items, where fixed costs take a bigger share.
What this leaves out
These are rates for sellers without an eBay Store. Store subscribers pay lower rates in many categories. Promoted listings, the international fee and extra fees for Below Standard accounts are not included. The eBay fees guide covers all of them.
