eBay vs Poshmark vs Mercari vs Depop vs Facebook: seller fees compared

Every marketplace takes a different cut, charges it on a different amount and handles shipping its own way. For a reseller, that means the same item can make noticeably different money depending on where it sells. Here are the fees side by side, what they apply to and how to use them.

These are US rates for individual sellers, checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change fees often, and Depop, Poshmark and Mercari have each changed theirs in the last few years, so check the marketplace's own help pages before you rely on a number for a big decision.

eBay

eBay's final value fee is 13.6% in most categories, charged on the total sale including shipping the buyer pays and sales tax, plus a per-order fee. Books, movies and music cost more, and some categories like guitars and higher-priced athletic shoes cost less. Our eBay fees guide covers the details.

What you get for the fee is the biggest pool of buyers searching for specific items, which matters most for electronics, media, collectibles and anything with a model number.

Poshmark

Poshmark charges a flat $2.95 on sales under $15 and 20% on sales of $15 or more. It is the highest percentage on this list, but there is no separate processing fee, and the buyer pays for a prepaid shipping label by default. Because you don't pay the label, the gap with other marketplaces is smaller than the headline rate suggests.

Poshmark is built around clothing, shoes and accessories, and its buyers often make offers. Price with room to negotiate.

Mercari

Mercari charges 10% on the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. Mercari dropped its separate seller processing fee in early 2025, and buyers now pay their own buyer protection fee. Listings created before that change and never updated may be charged under the older terms, so check old listings.

Mercari sells a broad mix of categories and is a common second channel for items that also go on eBay.

Depop

Depop removed its selling fee for US sellers in 2024. Sellers pay payment processing of 3.3% plus $0.45 per transaction, charged on the total including shipping. Sales that come through Depop's optional boosted listings carry an extra fee, which is not included in our calculators.

Depop leans young and fashion-focused. Vintage, streetwear and statement pieces fit best.

Facebook Marketplace

Shipped orders on Facebook Marketplace cost 10% of the order total, with a minimum of $0.80. Local pickup sales have no selling fee.

Local pickup is the best home for things that are expensive to ship: furniture, large decor, heavy cookware and bulky electronics. You'll handle meetups and cash or in-app payments yourself.

Worked example

Here is the fee on the same sale price on each marketplace, before shipping and the cost of the item:

eBay
$12.00$2.03
$40.00$5.84
$100.00$14.00
Mercari
$12.00$1.20
$40.00$4.00
$100.00$10.00
Poshmark
$12.00$2.95
$40.00$8.00
$100.00$20.00
Depop
$12.00$0.85
$40.00$1.77
$100.00$3.75
Facebook, shipped
$12.00$1.20
$40.00$4.00
$100.00$10.00
Facebook, local pickup
$12.00$0.00
$40.00$0.00
$100.00$0.00

The fee is only part of the story. On Poshmark the buyer pays the label, on Facebook local pickup there is no label at all, and on the others you choose whether to charge shipping or build it into your price. Run your own numbers in the reseller profit calculator, which puts all five side by side with your cost and shipping.

How to choose where to sell

  • Sell where the buyers are. A lower fee doesn't help if the item sits for months. Items with an exact model number and collectibles usually have the deepest buyer pool on eBay. Fashion can do well on Poshmark and Depop.
  • Big and heavy goes local. If shipping would eat the profit, list it for pickup.
  • Cheap items need low fixed costs. Flat fees and per-order fees take a big share of small sales. Bundle cheap items into lots.
  • Cross-listing widens the net. Listing the same item on more than one marketplace can sell it faster. Remove the other listings as soon as it sells.
  • Decide at the store, not at home. The marketplace you plan to sell on changes what you can afford to pay. Price your max buy against that marketplace's fees.
